Can you shock a well with pool shock?
Chemically it is the same calcium hypochlorite most well sanitizer packs contain, so it can work, with two big cautions: use only plain calcium hypochlorite labeled safe for potable water, never a pool blend with algaecides, clarifiers, or stabilizer (cyanuric acid), and dose by your well's actual gallons rather than by scoop.
Stabilized pool products are the trap: cyanuric acid does not belong in drinking water, and blended shocks carry copper algaecides and clarifying polymers that were never meant to be drunk. Read the label for a single ingredient.
The same chlorine limits apply as with bleach: lost strength at well-water pH, consumed by iron, weak against biofilm. It sanitizes a clean well acceptably and disappoints a slimed one.
